Development trend of silane coupling agent in glass fiber reinforced composite industry

Silane coupling agents with various functional groups have been developed so far. In addition to being used as coupling agents between organic and inorganic materials, their applications in other fields have also made new progress due to the particularity of their structures. For example, it is used to modify waterborne polyurethane Ⅲ 1. First, the amino group of amino silane coupling agent is used to open the epoxy group of epoxy resin, and then the modified waterborne polyurethane is synthesized together with chain extender and diisocyanate, which greatly improves the water resistance of waterborne polyurethane and expands its application field. Another example is the use of amino silane coupling agent as the curing agent of epoxy modified resin, the use of amino group of silane coupling agent as the curing agent of epoxy modified silicone resin, and the ring opening addition reaction of polyamine and epoxy group to generate a new type of silicone curing system.

With the rapid development of high-performance and high-functional materials, the application of silane coupling agents in the field of glass fiber reinforced composite materials is gradually increasing, such as high-power wind turbine blades, automobile lightweight, insulators for high-voltage transmission and transformation technology and high-voltage epoxy pipes. The development of these high-performance and high-functional materials has put forward higher requirements for the performance of silane coupling agents, especially in terms of fatigue strength, impact strength, high temperature resistance, hydrolysis resistance, corrosion resistance, high electrical insulation, high shear strength, high elastic modulus and stability, thus prompting scientists to develop new products with different functions and requirements to meet the requirements of new products in various fields.
